Hima Das continued her brilliant run on the international stage as she bagged a silver in the women’s 400m final at the 18th Asian Games on Sunday with a timing of 50.79s. Hima broke her own national record which she had set in the semis with a timing of 51.00s. The joy was doubled as Muhammed Anas added to India’s tally by picking a silver in the men’s 400m final.
It could well have been a silver and bronze for India in the women’s 400m final had Nirmla, another Indian participating in the final, not missed out on the third spot by just 0.33 seconds.
Hima had earlier scripted history by becoming the first Indian woman to win gold in the International Association of Athletics Federation (IAAF) World U-20 Athletic Championships in Tampere, Finland.
Putting on another impressive show, Hima — the daughter of a rice farmer from Dhing in Nagaon district — has made everyone proud as she keeps improving with each outing.
Anas too had reasons to smile as he finished second behind Hassan Abdalelah of Qatar with a timing of 45.69s. As was the case in the women’s event Rajiv Arokia finished fourth, missing the bronze by just 0.14 seconds.
